The first one ounce America Silver Eagle was issued in 1986 by the United States Mint, all Silver Eagles have a $1.00 face value to them and have a silver purity of .999, and each coin weighs 31.101 grams or one ounce and is 40.6mm in diameter. The coin generally features Heraldic Eagle on the reverse of the coin designed by John Mercant, and the obverse bears the image of Liberty Walking a design that was used between 1916 through to 1947 on the 50 cent piece and design by Adolph A. Weinman. From 1986-1992 proof Eagles where minted at the San Francisco Mint and have the S mint mark, from 1993 through 2000 proof Eagles where minted at the Philadelphia Mint and have the P mint mark, Since 2001 proof Eagle have been minted at the West Point Mint and display the W mint mark. The obverse is inscribed with the year of the coins minting, the word LIBERTY, and the phrase IN GOD WE TRUST.
